America Matters works to highlight the issues that most impact American Muslims, especially as they embrace American values.

America is home to an estimated 3.3 million Muslims who come from diverse ethnic backgrounds. A Muslim can be any ethnicity: Chinese, Russian, Pakistani, Iranian, Arab, and this list goes on. This diversity among Muslims is part of what it means to be an American Muslim today. The rich tapestry of Muslim identity means that Muslim Matters includes embracing American values such as freedom of religion, freedom of speech, the freedom of assembly, and the separation of church and state. We must continue to have the freedoms to worship and assemble as we desire while respecting the same rights of others who believe differently than we do.

Muslim Americans also know that the rights America offers gives Muslims the freedom to practice plurality within their faith. For Muslims in America, being part of a free society means being active citizens who uphold American values, so that the gift of America can be passed down to the next generation of American Muslims.

Through dialogue, America Matters works to bridge gaps and clear misconceptions about Muslims in America. We help navigate the dialogue by championing the issues that matter most to American Muslims who want to embrace American Values. Like all Americans, the issues that matter most to Muslims are spoken about around the kitchen table with family and friends. Beyond that, Muslim Americans have both the gift and opportunity to be part of an important new chapter in American history, one that defines once again how we can simultaneously be an inclusive nation while providing security for all Americans.
