Recently writing for On Being, Director of Muslim Matters Shireen Qudosi sees opportunity in the national dialogue. She thinks the political tug-of-war many Americans are having right now is part of a new discovery process. Commenting on important dialogues about values and American identity, Qudosi shares:
“If everything is always changing, and if we think moving forward is a sign of progress, then our identity can also be seen as a moveable frontier. We can hold onto the values we have as Americans, but we can push what it means to be American into the 21st century. This allows us to be better tomorrow than we were yesterday.
Today, that can mean a lot of things. It can mean we become more civically engaged, more philanthropic, more community oriented, or any other number of things. What we become is up to all of us to explore together.”
